Adopting A Protection Dog

Mackie writes:

My sensible friend who may be a dog trainer offered me his five year old Belgian Malinois for adoption. He's trained as a protection dog therefore he can guard his master, bite on command, unleash the bite on command, keep until released and others. He includes a trophy as third placer in Level one protection in an exceedingly protection dog competition. I have two dogs at gift: A one year-recent and a nine month-old Labrador... both are females, obedience trained and not neutered.

I would love to adopt him and I recognize I will take care of him. Can he accept me when being my friend's favorite dog for five years? My friend assured me that he will transfer the loyalty of the dog to me. He may be a fierce dog when in competition but a very quiet dog when outside the training ring. Of course my friend brings the dog with him continuously and I understand of many occasions {that the} dog is off leash. He is giving him up as a result of he needs to interchange him with a younger dog.

Should I take him up on his provide?

Expensive Mackie:

Yes... the dog will transfer his loyalty to you.

Here are two major problems you must take into account before adopting this dog:

1. The Belgian Malinois (especially one that is bred and trained for bite work and protection dog sports) will require a ton of work ON YOUR PART to learn how to handle this dog. You are going to want a lot of training... one-on-one style... to successfully integrate this dog into your life. It's like driving a Ferrari or a race car. The automobile already runs nice, however if you do not learn the proper approach to drive it, you will end up killing yourself. And simply as a result of you already understand a way to drive a Subaru doesn't cut it... we're talking Ferrari, here. And also the Belgian Malinois is a Ferrari with the tricked out Turbo engine.

2. The breed is an extremely HIGH DRIVE breed. This dog desires TONS of exercise and mental stimulation. TONS. Please take the time to acknowledge that adopting this dog will be a serious responsibility.

If you decide to try to to it, and you're successful, you may have an amazing companion. The breed is kind of healthy and you'll be able to be content in knowing that you simply own a KING OF KINGS as far as working dogs are concerned.

Half of me has invariably wanted what you are pondering getting. But my lifestyle and dedication to the exercise and coaching necessities are something I do not have at this current point in my life.

P.S. Make sure {that the} dog is not dog aggressive before you decide to take ownership.

That is all for now, folks!

Groom Your Cat To Avoid Hairballs – Kitty Will Love You For It

As loving cat owners we hate to think that our beloved pets are feeling unwell. That can be the early impression when your cat starts making hacking noises. Generally this is the first signs of the cat trying to eliminate a hairball.

If you see a blob of disgusting stuff on your floor, it is likely to be a hairball.  Cats require to do this in order to reduce hair from within their stomachs to guard them from getting sick.

What is it?  It’s a mass of hair and possibly a few food from the inside of a cat’s body.  When a cat grooms himself, he removes loose hair from throughout his body and it ends up in his stomach.  Sometimes, the hair comes together and forms a ball in there.  If he can not pass it, it is likely it won’t break down but will come up instead.

Most cats have trouble with removing hairballs.  If the cat can not get them up, it be able to obtain into the intestines and cause a blockage.  This is routine threatening to the pet.  If your cat seems to be constipated it may be a sign of a blockage.  If the cat is lethargic and his coat is dull and unhealthy looking, this also may be a sign.  Watch that he eats as he normally does.  If not, you should call and take him to see the vet who will then find out if it is a hairball and then he’ll reduce it.

You can avoid this type of problem yourself though.  One of the important ways to do this is to groom the pet.  The long haired cat want to be combed and brushed every day to reduce excess hair.  If you start to groom him when he is still young, he will study to tolerate it.  He may even trend forward to being groomed.  A few cats will deliver their combs to their owners even.  If he doesn’t like to be groomed, utilize a grooming glove instead.

If the cat still seems to have dilemma with hairballs, you be able to insert dietary aids to his diet.  One of these is a dry cat food that be able to help to stay away from hairballs.  Don’t only buy the early bag of the formula that you find.  Make sure it is still a fine quality food for your pet, one that is high in protein and other nutrients.  If your cat has a hairball, you be able to shop for the gel that be able to be added to the food which will help the hairball to pass.  Make assured to talk to your vet sooner than using one of these hairball remedies for long periods of period though.

You can try some of the more usual remedies as really but you must insure they are okay with your vet basic.  Several will actually cause your pet discomfort or will get rid of principal nutrients from his body.  These include such things as pumpkin, mineral oils and even butter.  If your cat continues to have problem with hairballs, ask your vet concerning what you ought to do to improve this.

What You Should Know About Feeding and Nutrition for Your Dog

A healthy canine is a happy one. While the attention you give him will be a constant source of joy for him, the foods you provide are just as important to his long-term happiness. Sadly, many owners never learn how to best provide for their dog's nutritional needs. Sometimes, they'll serve the wrong foods and starve their pooch of the vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients that are critical to his health. In other cases, owners serve meals that are too big, or they serve them too often; indeed, canine obesity is a growing problem.

Here we will address some common questions that dog owners ask about their dog's nutritional needs. You may discover that your own dog's diet needs a few minor modifications.

"When Can My Puppy Eat Adult Meals?"

Puppies grow quickly, so the ingredients that are used in their food are formulated to support that growth. You should begin making the transition from puppy to adult meals when your pup has reached 80% of his full adult weight. That typically happens at the 9-month mark. It's worth noting that all breeds are a little different. Puppies from a few larger breeds may need an additional 3 to 9 months before making the switch.

"How Much Food Should I Provide?"

Take your dog's age, lifestyle, and size into account when you are trying to figure out how much and how often to feed him. Until a puppy reaches 3 months of age, feed him four times daily. Then he should have three meals each day. Full grown dogs should be fed twice each day. The more active your canine, the bigger meals it will need. If he gets very little exercise, serve smaller portions.

"Does The Brand Of Dog Food Matter?"

Yes and no. The brands that are sold in your local grocery store will normally be fine for your dog's health. They'll contain the proteins, fats, vitamins, and nutrients that he needs. That said, the brands that are more expensive will usually provide higher-quality dog food. They are seldom sold in grocery stores; instead, you may need to visit a pet supply store or go online to buy them.

"Are Scraps From The Dinner Table Fine?"

It's best to avoid giving your dog scraps. Even though millions of owners do so, it can have a long-term health impact. It is because of fat content. Scraps are often fatty, and they can be bad for your doggie's tummy health. Meanwhile, he won't have access to the nutrients that he needs to stay healthy. Instead offer your dog healthy bully sticks dog treats, that he will enjoy and not fell left out of your family dining experience.

Left to his own devices, your dog will eat foods that are not healthy for him (similar to a person eating pizza). He relies upon you to provide meals and dog treats that contain the ingredients his body requires. Over time, you'll enjoy the benefits of his health through his loyal companionship.

What You Need to Know – Scabies on Dogs

Funny Cats vs. Funny Dogs

It just doesn't seems fair. Your doggie companion has been diagnosed with canine diabetes, and now he's having trouble with his sight. Unfortunately, cataracts in dogs are extremely common in dogs with diabetes. In fact, most canine diabetics will develop cataracts within a year of being diagnosed with this disease.

Although this type of cancer can occur in any dog, it is common in middle aged to elderly dogs, especially large breeds like German Shepherd and Golden Retriever.

Canine spleen cancer symptoms

When the tumor ruptures, the spleen bleeds and internal hemorrhage occurs. Excessive blood loss may result in death. Symptoms of spleen cancer in dogs are:

  • shock
  • pale gums
  • cold body
  • weakness
  • abdominal distention
  • anemia

Why do Diabetic Dogs get Cataracts?

All cataracts develop in the same way, whether the pet has diabetes or not. The lens in your pet's eye is normally in a dehydrated state, compared to the rest of the body. There is a delicate balance between water and protein, which ensures that the lens remains clear.

If this balance is upset, more water is absorbed into the lens, which causes it to become cloudy and opaque. When diabetes strikes, the blood sugar levels rise all over the body. Glucose in the eyeball is absorbed into the lens. In turn, this causes the lens to absorb more water, which causes the cloudiness and vision loss in cataracts.

This can happen very quickly, even in as short a time as a few weeks. Sometimes this is the first symptom of canine diabetes that a pet owner will notice.

It may not be obvious before surgery whether the tumor is benign or malignant. If radiographs and ultrasound show spread of tumor to other organs, the tumor is malignant.

If no tumor spread is visible, the mass may or may not be benign. Where the tumor spread is too small to be seen, it may not be obvious if it is benign or malignant until the abdomen is opened.

Treatment for dog spleen tumor

For both benign and malignant tumors, the recommended treatment is splenectomy. If the cancer spread is minimal, chemotherapy following surgery may prolong the dog's life span.

Don't wait any longer. While it's still fresh on your mind, learn more about how natural remedies for dogs can protect your diabetic pet's eyes

Dog Breeds

{Choosing the best dog breeds to adapt at your cozy home can be a daunting question; especially if you haven t adapted a dog beforeIf it is the first time you are thinking of adapting a puppy, choosing the best dog breeds can be tricky}. Children are the ones who are almost always interested in adapting a dog but little do they know about dog breeds that are friendlier and suitable for home fronts and those dog breeds that are not.

It is a known common fact that some dog breeds tend to become jealous towards children in search of attention and that could be dangerous in a household depending on the age of your children. So read up on every possible detail you can gather about different dog breeds before adapting a dog.

American kennel society has recognized over 150 dog breeds including working dogs, companion dogs and more. remember that dog breed have characteristics of their own and they come in to play. Whilst dogs can be the best friends for humans, it is also important to consider the aspects that might go wrong when adapting a specific dog breed.

You will find some dogs being more territorial than other dogs while some other dog breeds being friendlier in nature. Some dog breeds require a single master who will have the control over the dog s behavior and know how to discipline them. A perfect example of such single master dogs are guard dogs used by police.

One more important thing you should know about dog breeds is that some dogs know how to boss around people and know whom to obey. One more thing you should focus on when selecting dog breeds is the general temperament of the breed and grooming.

If the dog breeds you choose have a everyday temperament then that means they are easy to discipline and they d probably make good friends with children. If not, they could be used as custodial dogs.

Dog Grooming can become a hassle for many dog owners. Generally, the long hair types are difficult to maintain while the shorthaired ones are easier to get by.

You may want to familiarize yourself with different grooming techniques depending on the dog breeds you wish to adapt.

What to Expect When Buying From a Pet Breeder

Has your son or daughter been worrying you asking for a pet? Any person who has gone through the same situation of finding a pet for their family will know that buying a new pet can be quite expensive. Free pets are not possible to find nowadays and if you are to keep your children happy, you’d most probably have to buy a pet even if it’s expensive.

Buying a pet from pet breeders can be quite expensive as some quote high prices for even the smallest dog or cat. Did you know that Golden Retrievers if bought from pet breeders could cost up to $800? Rare exotic types of pets bought from pet breeders would be more expensive.

Many pets you see in pet shops come from different pet breeders. They are the ones who make it their daily job to breed certain types of pets and sell them to pet shops. You may wonder why some pets are expensive and some are not. This could be because some pet breeders breed only one kind of pet. When the pet breeders specialize in just one or two types of pet breeds, their prices obviously would be in a higher range.

A pet shop would be the best place to visit if you want to get a pet. But before buying one, it would be beneficial to search for more information regarding the pet. Questions such as where the pet came from, its lineage, and illnesses it may have or could have, etc could be asked from the pet breeders.

There are some pet breeders who breed their pets in pet mills. Such places are where pets are ill-treated. Would you want to own a pet coming from such a place? Obviously not. Make sure the pet breeders are attentive to the pets and also someone who loves animals and not trying to make money out of them.

Most pet breeders give their best care and attention to the pets and provide them with healthy living conditions. If you think that buying a pet directly from the pet breeders itself is feasible, you could do that instead of wasting time at a pet store.

There Is No Such Thing As A Bad Dog…

When the owner terms the dog as bad, perhaps they should look at their own behavior. It is frustrating when a dog simply jumps on your clean clothes as you are taking a walk down the road. This can also happen when the dog next door leaves his tell tale marks on your front yard. Just like the kid next door who has not been taught any manners, these dogs can be compared to them.

What is wrong with the kids or the pet when the concerned adults are not doing their duties? Sensible owners take the help of dog trainers who teaches them proper handling methods without breaking the natural spirit. Either you contact your vet office or pet store to get to meet a trainer or seek online help from a dog training book or from online dog training tips and tackle your pet problem before it goes out of hand. This training could teach owners how to be in command of their pets.

Many times trainers comment that dogs are easier to train than their owners. When you want the dog to be leash trained, make them practice in a small area away from other distractions. Owner and other residents get irritated when these animals bark even if it is a typical occurrence. Shouting or punishing your pet for engaging in this normal communication is counterproductive - as well as confusing to the animal.

So why does a dog bark?
Often, dogs bark because they lack attention or need food and water. The noise of a dog barking can alarm the owners of a burglar intrusion so attempting to stop him from doing this may work against you. It is not a good idea having your puppy bark, even during play if you are likely too shout at him when he barks as an adult. You could learn from your trainer how to reinforce certain behaviors in a puppy, which you desire, by giving them the occasional gift for being good.

How do you make your new puppy stop the undesired behavior?
Well, simply learn to reward your new puppy when he does something which is 'desired' behavior. Most important to note: you can not expect a dog to learn certain behaviors which are against his genetic behavioral pattern. In case you are particular about teaching your pet some specific behavioral skills, you should choose one from the breed which would provide you with the type of traits you are searching for.

When does a dog become good?
Good dogs are developed by patience, persistence and kindness.

Giving Our Pets The Care They Deserve

Grooming and caring for your dog isn't pampering, it's essential. This is an important part of keeping your dog well and healthy and shouldn't be skipped.

Taking the proper steps to board your dog when you have to travel is another important consideration for dog owners.  Giving proper thought to these vital aspects of dog ownership can make all the difference in your pet’s life.

While we all tend to pay attention to the basics such as feeding, walking and playing with our pets, we sometimes overlook the other responsibilities that come with owning a dog.  Dog boarding and dog day care is as important as finding a place to stay for yourself.  You want someplace clean, safe and well appointed…why would you settle for anything less for your dog?

And keeping your dog’s coat clean and free of matting can be just as crucial to maintaining its health as a proper diet and plenty of water.  Dog grooming not only results in a shinier coat, it can help to improve blood supply to the skin.  Clipping your dog’s nails, another essential step in grooming, can allow dogs to walk properly and avoid snagging their nails in carpets and other fabrics.

While most owners can handle standard brushing and bathing, some prefer to use the services of a professional groomer when it comes to more extensive care.  Some dog boarding facilities will include grooming as part of their services.  Just like choosing a veterinarian, it is important that you exercise proper caution when selecting a groomer.  Make sure they are licensed and their facility is clean and well maintained.

Dog grooming can be a good way for pet and owner to bond.  Dogs will often equate daily brushing with petting and showing affection.Dogs that are started early with regular grooming, become comfortable with the process and can really enjoy the entire experience.  But grooming doesn’t stop with the coat…the eyes, ears and nails also require regular maintenance to ensure proper health.

Careful dog owners will not only pay attention to grooming but also ensure that their dog is well cared for when they are away.  Dog boarding can be hard on both pet and owner, but if you do your research and find an establishment with good facilities and proper licensing it can also be a positive experience. Before choosing, you should always make a physical visit to any facility your considering leaving your dog at.

Some facilities offer full service boarding, including special diets if your dog requires one, walking and playing on a regular basis to ensure your dog gets proper exercise, and even dog grooming to keep pets looking and feeling their best.  One of the best ways of finding a good boarding facility is by asking other dog owners you know.Referrals and recommendations are usually the best way to find good prospects for a boarding facility.

We all love our pets and want what’s best for them, so why skimp when it comes to grooming and boarding? You'll want to take the time to get referrals so you can feel comfortable leaving your buddy with them.

Professional Dog Care: Your Dog Deserves The Best

When it comes to dog boarding, it's important to remember that you can find quality care, whether it's Ann Arbor dog boarding or Albuquerque. It's probably easy to find Ann Arbor dog grooming, but have you considered how difficult it is to find good dog boarding in YOUR town?

Do your due diligence prior to retaining dog boarding services. Emergencies are just that; they're unexpected, so be prepared to provide care for your pet when they happen.

When selecting the right facility, you should follow a few simple steps to be sure you've found the right place for your dog boarding. Quality dog boarding facilities will have reasonable hours of operation, scheduled daily exercise for the dogs, socialization with other dogs (if appropriate), regular feeding and medication delivery, and comprehensive emergency procedures. If your pet has health problems that require special attention, be sure the dog boarding facility is equipped to handle his needs.

It's a good idea (and polite!) to schedule your tour ahead of time if you're planning to tour a dog boarding facility. Ask questions over the phone; it's a good idea to choose the ones that are deal-breakers, so that you don't waste a visit if the facility is unable to meet your needs. No need to make a trip if they don't offer as much exercise as you want, or are unable to accommodate your special needs. Upscale facilities may offer additional fringe benefits, like dog grooming.

When you're on your tour of a dog boarding facility, be sure to check to be sure proper licenses are maintained and displayed. It's always a good idea to check with your local Better Business Bureau to determine whether other clients are pleased with their service. Obviously, take a look around and note whether the rooms are clean and tidy. If you're near water, it isn't a bad idea to note whether or not the building is in a flood zone. If they do dog grooming as well, be sure to have a look at the work the facility does, and that it is satisfactory for your needs.

Each of these things are important to think about when you select the facility that will handle your dog boarding and dog grooming. Whether it's Ann Arbor dog boarding, Ann Arbor dog grooming, or Albuquerque, quality facilities are nearby, you just have to do the legwork to find them!
