Dog owners should realize that a dog should come to you when he is called. Most owners do not recognize this as a problem before it happens. The dog might break free from you and go after someone. This is not safe for other people or the dog. It could be serious for the dog if there are cars around when he decides to go for a “run”.
Some blame has to go to the owners. Some owners let their dogs run around without a leash. Obedience for dogs training should be started when the dog is young. The dog believes it can have a lot of fun when running around outside without its owner whether at the beach or the park. This association of fun without the owner can cause him to think that being with the owner is not fun. The dog training leash can become a negative in the dogs mind.
Because this can be negative, the dog might not come at first when called. The dog, having so much fun without the owner will continue to want to have fun without him.
You want to prevent this pattern from happening in the first place. The time it spends running around with other dogs should not be more fun than the time it spends with you. Be there when your dog is playing and take control and supervise. If your canine has already learned this negative behavior, he needs to be retrained. An important command that your dog needs to obey is the “come here” command.
Don’t use this come here command and then give any negative behavior towards your dog. If you call your dog and then right away do something to him that he does not like, like bathing him, then he will not be too enthusiastic to come later on first call. If you are going to do something the dog does not like, like going to the vet, first play with him after you call him.
Reward the dog when it comes to you by showing some affection or giving it a snack. This is positive dog training.

A healthy canine is a happy one. While the attention you give him will be a constant source of joy for him, the foods you provide are just as important to his long-term happiness. Sadly, many owners never learn how to best provide for their dog's nutritional needs. Sometimes, they'll serve the wrong foods and starve their pooch of the vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients that are critical to his health. In other cases, owners serve meals that are too big, or they serve them too often; indeed, canine obesity is a growing problem.
Here we will address some common questions that dog owners ask about their dog's nutritional needs. You may discover that your own dog's diet needs a few minor modifications.
"When Can My Puppy Eat Adult Meals?"
Puppies grow quickly, so the ingredients that are used in their food are formulated to support that growth. You should begin making the transition from puppy to adult meals when your pup has reached 80% of his full adult weight. That typically happens at the 9-month mark. It's worth noting that all breeds are a little different. Puppies from a few larger breeds may need an additional 3 to 9 months before making the switch.
"How Much Food Should I Provide?"
Take your dog's age, lifestyle, and size into account when you are trying to figure out how much and how often to feed him. Until a puppy reaches 3 months of age, feed him four times daily. Then he should have three meals each day. Full grown dogs should be fed twice each day. The more active your canine, the bigger meals it will need. If he gets very little exercise, serve smaller portions.
"Does The Brand Of Dog Food Matter?"
Yes and no. The brands that are sold in your local grocery store will normally be fine for your dog's health. They'll contain the proteins, fats, vitamins, and nutrients that he needs. That said, the brands that are more expensive will usually provide higher-quality dog food. They are seldom sold in grocery stores; instead, you may need to visit a pet supply store or go online to buy them.
"Are Scraps From The Dinner Table Fine?"
It's best to avoid giving your dog scraps. Even though millions of owners do so, it can have a long-term health impact. It is because of fat content. Scraps are often fatty, and they can be bad for your doggie's tummy health. Meanwhile, he won't have access to the nutrients that he needs to stay healthy. Instead offer your dog healthy bully sticks dog treats, that he will enjoy and not fell left out of your family dining experience.
Left to his own devices, your dog will eat foods that are not healthy for him (similar to a person eating pizza). He relies upon you to provide meals and dog treats that contain the ingredients his body requires. Over time, you'll enjoy the benefits of his health through his loyal companionship.

Dog obedience training is not just for pure bred show dogs, or those dogs used for services like police work, public service and military missions. Obedience training should be applied to all dogs. It is surprising that so many owners of mixed-breed dogs feel that their dog isn't good enough or acceptable for formal obedience training. While it is true that many All-Breed Dog Clubs and Specialty-Breed Dog Clubs do discriminate and refuse to allow enrollment of mixed-breed dogs, dog clubs are simply just one place where dogs can receive formal obedience training.
The yellow pages and online search engines can help you find dog training classes in your area. With the exception of some dog clubs, mixed breed dogs are welcome. The mixed breed dog learns just as well as a dog with papers.
Price of dog training is another area that has stopped so many people. Without actually doing any checking they assume the price will be costly. The simple fact is formal dog obedience training classes are not expensive.
There is an easy to follow training program that is very inexpensive. You can have the teachings of a professional at home. Daniel Stevens is the trainer and his program has excellent rave reviews. There are plenty of Secrets to Dog Training Reviews and all agree the program is worth the small outlay.
The tuition for formal dog obedience training is a sound investment for all dog owners. In a short period of time and only fifteen minutes a day, your dog will learn and respond to words very quickly.
It will come immediately when called instead of running in another direction, or worse, ignoring you. It will sit when told, instead of jumping up on people. It will walk at your side instead of pulling you down the sidewalk as if it is the leader. It will lie down when and where you tell it to and it will stay where you tell it to. No longer would your dog have bad dog behavior.
Many people who own watchdogs are forced to confine them to back rooms when visitors come, simply because the dogs have not received formal dog obedience training. They fail to understand that a watchdog confined to a back room is about as handy as a car without the key.
An obediently trained dog knows the difference between no and okay. Not only can this training elevate the status of your family dog, but it will mold sound characteristics in your dog. An obediently trained dog is not 'just a dog,' but a welcome addition to any household.

A very popular dog training tool is the head collar. A couple of brands of the head collar are the Gentle Leader and the Halti.
Some think that the Gentle Leader is an easier fit compared to the Halti. Also, Gentle Leader is made to be put around the dog’s neck. This design has the advantage because if the dog gets the muzzle off, still it is wearing a collar. It is a safety feature that is important, when training outside. Even so, the Halti gives more control of the dog, and for this it is used when working with dogs that are very aggressive.
There are some instances when dogs are hard to control. For instance, your dog may want to be with other dogs. An effective tool for situations like this is the head collar.
There are some good reasons to use head collars instead of just regular training collars. New dog owners might find it easier to use. They can be very good at preventing dogs that tend to pull. If a dog is particularly strong, head collars offer more control of the dog.
Positive reinforcement of the dog and good training principles should go hand in hand with how to train your dog. Dog collars are not intended as a means to train by itself.
There are some draw backs to using head collars. Your dog can become accustomed to the collar and will change the way they act based on the head collar or the regular collar. Also some dogs might try and take it off with their paws. If a dog does this, keep the dog walking until he gets used to it.
Another flaw of using a head collar is that some people see it as a muzzle and this can scare others as they think the dog can bite.
When training with a regular collar or a head collar, follow the proper use as outlined by the company that sells it and use other dog training methods.

One of the biggest difficulties dog trainers have when they begin a dog agility training course is getting their dog to stay. The command ‘stay’ is simple but is not necessarily easy to implement. Neither show dogs, nor ordinary dogs, obey the command easily, mainly because it is not in a dog’s nature to remain still. So, how does one teach their dog to stay exactly where we want them to stay?
Dogs and children are pretty much the same; they will explore their boundaries. People do get disarmed by the charm of the cute eyes of a dog, but you have to put your foot down and be stern to make the dog obey. The dog has to be corrected if it tries to move after the stay command has been given. Having a dog that does not stay when told to is seen as a major embarrassment in the dog show world.
As was mentioned above, Dogs just do not like to stay still, this fact is both a negative and a positive at the same time. It is a negative because it makes it difficult to teach your dog to stay still, but it is a positive because it can be harness as a reward. Your dog can be rewarded with treats for not moving after the order and it can be permitted to run as a bonus.
Agility traing for dogs has major benefits for both dogs and their owners, whether it is a show dog or a beloved family pet. Insufficient exercise is one of the main reasons for a dog misbehaving. Agility training ensures that the dog gets all the exercise it must rightly have, and taking the dog out for the walk gives its owner also sufficient exercise. This is not to say that one must run with the dogs to be one with the dogs, in fact, agility training is ideal for those who are incapable of extraneous exercise since it is the dog that will be doing the running.
Being a dog owner myself, I know that the regular old walk isn’t very exciting, but taking your dog to the park to engage in some agility training can be an excellent motivator. Agility training is a very pleasant way of connecting with your dog, by watching it jumping and frolicking in the natural way, rather than being dragged around the town by its excited master who lacks sufficient exercise.
All in all, whether you are a professional dog trainer or just a dog lover, dog agility training is definitely the best starting line.

When the owner terms the dog as bad, perhaps they should look at their own behavior. It is frustrating when a dog simply jumps on your clean clothes as you are taking a walk down the road. This can also happen when the dog next door leaves his tell tale marks on your front yard. Just like the kid next door who has not been taught any manners, these dogs can be compared to them.
What is wrong with the kids or the pet when the concerned adults are not doing their duties? Sensible owners take the help of dog trainers who teaches them proper handling methods without breaking the natural spirit. Either you contact your vet office or pet store to get to meet a trainer or seek online help from a dog training book or from online dog training tips and tackle your pet problem before it goes out of hand. This training could teach owners how to be in command of their pets.
Many times trainers comment that dogs are easier to train than their owners. When you want the dog to be leash trained, make them practice in a small area away from other distractions. Owner and other residents get irritated when these animals bark even if it is a typical occurrence. Shouting or punishing your pet for engaging in this normal communication is counterproductive - as well as confusing to the animal.
So why does a dog bark?
Often, dogs bark because they lack attention or need food and water. The noise of a dog barking can alarm the owners of a burglar intrusion so attempting to stop him from doing this may work against you. It is not a good idea having your puppy bark, even during play if you are likely too shout at him when he barks as an adult. You could learn from your trainer how to reinforce certain behaviors in a puppy, which you desire, by giving them the occasional gift for being good.
How do you make your new puppy stop the undesired behavior?
Well, simply learn to reward your new puppy when he does something which is 'desired' behavior. Most important to note: you can not expect a dog to learn certain behaviors which are against his genetic behavioral pattern. In case you are particular about teaching your pet some specific behavioral skills, you should choose one from the breed which would provide you with the type of traits you are searching for.
When does a dog become good?
Good dogs are developed by patience, persistence and kindness.

Dog training can actually be an enjoyable task rather than the painful chore most would view it as. However, it can actually be a lot of fun, and so long as you understand that training your dog specific actions or behaviors will not happen overnight, it can become a fun pastime for both you and your pet. But, with the right information and a great attitude, your dog really could be one of the most well-trained dogs in the neighborhood. Wouldn’t it be great if you could brag about how great your dog is as opposed to complain about him or her? I'm not kidding - all it takes is an hour or two each day (more time if you can afford it) and lots of praise. Interestingly, many seem to expect that their dog will automatically heed to their every command as if it is a natural instinct.
It is so important to realize that it just does not really work this way people. Without a little preparation beforehand, successful dog training will probably not happen. Of course you will have to invest into dog training tips, books, and any other items that can show you step-by-step how to train your dog or puppy. And digging through dog training books does not have to be a dreaded task. Personally speaking, it is my favorite part of training my pets. I absolutely love reading through dog training books, watching videos, and really seeing what amazing results that these intelligent dogs can display. Training your dog is a wonderful opportunity to develop trust between you and your pet. Dog training can be a time when you will spend a lot of time with your dog. Really, one reason for some of the behavior problems a dog owner may experience is because the dog is lonely and wants attention.
Always let your dog know that you are proud of him whenever he displays a behavior that is positive. These actions do not have to be monumental feats. Anything small is worth giving your dog a pat on the back and a loving chat. The more you praise them, the more likely they will be to continue their good behavior for you. Also, have fun with your dog. Try playing catch with a ball, a game every dog enjoys. This is some great one-on-one time with you and your dog giving him or her the attention needed to help alleviate some of the behavior problems caused by lack of attention. This quickly turns into a new little game for you to play with one another and is really a fun way for you and your dog to pass some time. There are plenty of other examples where dog training can be implemented without going to the extremes of detailed, lengthy training protocols. You and your dog will be much happier in the end thanks to you giving him the attention that he requires and applying dog training techniques on him every single chance that you do get with him.
