A couple of the causes for your dogs digging may be; he wants to bury a bone or a toy, he might be looking for his bone or toy, he saw a small rodent run into a little hole or he is just trying to get out. Remember he is not digging because he knows it bugs you, it is part of his instinct and up to this point he does not understand that it is unacceptable behavior. Instead of punishing your dog,(he won’t no why you’re punishing him anyway) try to figure out WHY he is digging and then begin looking for a way to address it.

Just try to find something that will relieve his boredom.
